Porsche Engine Specialists
Porsche engine repair and rebuilding in Norcross.
Porsche engine repair starts with understanding the engine in front of us. RS Motorwerks services all Porsche models from 1948 to present and repairs and rebuilds air-cooled and water-cooled engines, with unique expertise in classic air-cooled models. Oil leaks, compression loss, unusual noise and cooling concerns call for testing suited to the engine before deciding between a targeted repair and a rebuild.
RS Motorwerks has served Porsche owners since 2004. Every engine job starts the same way: we confirm what’s actually wrong with compression and leak-down testing, oil analysis and a proper inspection, then scope the work before anything comes apart. You’ll know what we found, what it means, and what we recommend, in plain terms, before a single fastener is turned.
Whether it’s a contained repair or a complete rebuild, the work is handled in-house by the same people who diagnosed it. Nothing gets shipped out and lost in translation, and the decision to repair or rebuild follows the evidence, not the calendar or the invoice.
Warning Signs
Signs your engine needs attention
Changes in engine behavior deserve attention. Investigating leaks, noise, smoke or rising temperatures early helps identify the cause and reduce the risk of further damage.
Oil leaks & consumption
Some seepage is normal on a classic. Steady leaks from case seams, valve covers or seals, or oil disappearing between services, are worth investigating before they get worse.Low or uneven compression
Often traced to valves, guides, rings or a tired top end. Compression and leak-down testing tells us which cylinders are down and why.Valve-train noise
Ticking or tapping that changes with temperature can point to wear or an adjustment that’s drifted. Left alone, it accelerates wear elsewhere.Smoke on start-up
Blue smoke usually means oil getting past guides or rings. It’s easiest and cheapest to address early, before it turns into a bigger top-end job.Overheating tendencies
Cooling needs differ by engine. We investigate airflow and oil cooling on air-cooled models and coolant-system concerns on water-cooled models.Rough running & hesitation
Fueling, ignition or a mechanical fault can all feel the same from the driver’s seat. We isolate the actual cause before any parts get replaced.WHY RS MOTORWERKS
Porsche experience, with deep air-cooled expertise.
Engine work rewards experience more than anything else in the shop. Knowing when a case is worth saving and when it isn’t, which parts to reuse and which to replace, and how a 2.0, 2.7, 3.0, 3.2 or 3.6 should actually go together, that judgment is the real value. It’s the difference between an engine that’s simply back together and one that’s built to run reliably for years.
Our Porsche experience includes unique expertise in classic air-cooled engines alongside repair and rebuilding for water-cooled models. We assess each engine on its condition and the work it needs.

Diagnosis before disassembly
Rebuilt to fit
Measured assembly, correct parts, and a build set up for how you actually drive the car, then run and checked before it goes back to you.
Common Questions
Repair or full
rebuild?
Not every engine problem needs a rebuild, and a worn-out engine shouldn’t get a partial fix that won’t last. The recommendation follows the inspection, so you spend on what the engine actually needs, no more and no less.
Targeted Porsche engine repair
Appropriate when diagnosis points to a specific, serviceable fault and the rest of the engine is sound.
Oil-leak & seal repair
Top-end / valve-train service
Cooling & oil-system repair
Fueling & ignition correction
Complete engine rebuild
Recommended when inspection shows broad wear, internal damage or multiple failing components that won’t hold up to a partial fix.
Full teardown & inspection
Machining & measured assembly
Replacement of worn components
Careful reassembly, set-up & testing
Common Questions
Porsche engine repair and rebuilding FAQ
How do I know if my engine needs a rebuild or just a repair?
Symptoms alone rarely give the full answer, and the same complaint can have very different causes. We start with compression and leak-down testing plus a physical inspection. Only when the evidence points inside the engine do we recommend opening it up, and we’ll explain what we found before we do.
Which Porsche engines do you repair and rebuild?
We repair and rebuild air-cooled and water-cooled Porsche engines. RS Motorwerks services all Porsche models from 1948 to present, with unique expertise in classic air-cooled models. Contact us with your vehicle and engine details to discuss the appropriate scope.
How much does a Porsche engine rebuild cost?
It depends on the engine, its condition, and how many parts are reusable, so it varies a great deal from car to car. We don’t quote a generic figure; the estimate follows the inspection, and you approve the scope before work begins.
Will you reuse my original parts where possible?
Where components measure within spec and are safe to reuse, yes. We’ll tell you what can be kept and what needs replacing, and why, so originality and reliability are both accounted for.
How long will the work take?
Timing depends on scope, parts availability and shop schedule. We’ll give you a realistic estimate once the engine has been evaluated, rather than a number we can’t stand behind.
