What the build was about.

In 1970 and 1971, Porsche built a small number of lightweight 911s for racing, known as the ST. They had flared fenders and engines built for competition, with almost everything nonessential stripped out. Original STs are rare and valuable, so builders recreate the look and spirit on other early 911s.

This ambitious project started with a 1969 911T E roof and dash assembly and valid VIN. The owner wanted a road-legal car with ST looks and a strong, reliable engine, built for weekend drives and the occasional club track day. The engine started as a 3.2L and was upgraded to 3.6L as part of the build.

Getting the chassis right.

The build started with the bodyshell on a Celette frame jig, a fixture that holds the chassis to factory dimensions while structural work is done. On a car this old, that step matters. Any rust repair or panel work has to keep the chassis straight, or the car will never drive properly however good the engine is.

With the shell on the jig, the structure was measured and the rust repair was done, including new metal in the front trunk floor and the lower longitudinals. The roll cage was then fitted and the wider steel front and rear fenders were shaped before the car went to paint.

What we did.

  • Complete scratch build from new panels
  • 3.6L custom engine rebuild with custom Motec management
  • Chassis built from ground up on the jig
  • 915 five-speed gearbox rebuild
  • All brand new panels
  • Sport suspension, brakes & 15″ wheels
  • Roll cage & steel fender flares
  • Lightweight interior & bucket seats
  • Aluminum hood and deck lid
  • Final assembly, tuning & road test
